Cellomics, Inc. Announces the Appointment of Dan Calvo as CEO Print E-mail
Pittsburgh, PA – August 11, 2003 – Cellomics, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Calvo as the President and CEO. Dan joins Cellomics from PerkinElmer Life Sciences, a $500 million global provider of instruments, reagents, software and services for the life sciences, drug discovery and diagnostics markets, where he was most recently VP, Worldwide Sales and Service. In that role, Dan led the integration and expansion of PerkinElmer’s life science business, growing from $200 million to $500 million. Dan was previously Senior VP, Global Sales and Marketing for NEN Life Sciences, where he drove a significant turnaround of the company prior to the acquisition by PerkinElmer. He spent more than 15 years at DuPont in various sales, marketing and operational assignments in their medical products business. Dan received an AB degree in biochemistry from Princeton University, an MHS in Environmental Health Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University and an MBA in Business Administration from Bellarmine College. He succeeds D. Lansing Taylor, Ph. D., who will remain as Chairman of the Board of Directors. “The Board of Directors is extremely pleased to have recruited Dan as the next CEO of Cellomics,” stated D. Lansing Taylor. “We have been evolving from a technology-driven company to a more mature commercial organization over the last two years. Cellomics has completed a restructuring and focusing program, while continuing to be the market leader in the field we created. The appointment of Dan is a critical next step in our strategic plan. His skills, experience and leadership capabilities will develop a stronger operational and commercial focus aimed at improving our market penetration and financial performance” “I am pleased to join Cellomics and lead the on-going development and full commercialization of our integrated solution in the field of “cellomics” and in the markets of High Content Screening that the Company pioneered,” stated Dan Calvo. “The combination of a strong installed base and a powerful intellectual property position creates a rare opportunity for significant growth. High Content Screening (HCS) will have a major impact in all stages of early drug discovery, systems biology in academic research and in many fields of biotechnology. Cellomics, Inc. pioneered the field of large-scale cellular knowledge extraction and continues to lead the market with advances in HCS technology and products. HCS integrates instrumentation, BioApplication software, information management software and reagents. Currently, Cellomics’ proprietary products are in use at multiple sites in the 15 largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, as well as in many biotechnology companies and academic centers, globally.
