Cellomics, Inc. Announces the Launch of Three New BioApplications for the ArrayScan® HCS Reader
PITTSBURGH, PA -- January 6, 2003. Cellomics, Inc. announced today the release of three new BioApplication software modules, Molecular Translocation, Micronucleus, and Cell Cycle, for the ArrayScan® High Content Screening (HCS) Reader and the vHCS™Discovery Toolbox . In response to market interests, Cellomics has broadened its application offerings to include not only specific tools designed for discrete screening needs but also general purpose screening tools that provide researchers with the added flexibility required to analyze a broad range of biological targets. The new BioApplications significantly increase the level of sophistication of biological analyses that can be accomplished with the Cellomics platform, while also providing time and cost savings for the user.
The Molecular Translocation BioApplication is a powerful and flexible tool that enables scientists to simultaneously study multiple signal transduction pathways involving biomolecules such as transcription factors and kinases within a single experiment. Up to five individual translocation events can be measured in each cell and advanced reporting features indicate population characteristics and correlations between multiple targets. “Translocation based assays have become one of the hallmarks of high content screening, and this new application builds on Cellomics pioneering advances for these types of measurements,” stated Dr. Keith Olson, Senior Director of Marketing. The Micronucleus BioApplication for the ArrayScan® HCS Reader is a multi-channel software module that enables detection of genotoxicity by examining the frequency of micronucleus formation in mononucleate or binucleate cells. “The time savings introduced with Cellomics automated image analysis compared to manual methods is so significant that this BioApplication will enable, for the first time, automated screening for micronucleus formation,” stated Dr. Sarah Burroughs Tencza, Product Manager for BioApplications. The Cell Cycle BioApplication is a flexible, multi-channel software module that enables users to measure the cell cycle phase of individual cells within a population by measuring their DNA content, and then simultaneously correlating this measurement with the activity of multiple other cell cycle-associated proteins in each cell. Once measurements are made, the Cell Cycle BioApplication uses population analysis and classification to automatically determine the distribution of cell cycle phases for individual cells, reporting results at both the single cell and population levels. "These tools are important additions to our portfolio of BioApplications,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Haskins, Vice President of Assay Development at Cellomics. “These targets impact broad areas of interest in drug discovery including in vitro toxicology, cancer and cell signaling.” Cellomics, Inc. pioneered the field of cellular knowledge extraction and continues to lead the market with advances in high content screening technology. High Content Screening integrates fluorescent reagents, kits, cell lines, multi-parametric assays, instrumentation (both fixed end-point and kinetics systems), and informatics tools to achieve a flexible, broadly applicable platform for users in the life sciences. This automated platform, when applied to lead optimization, predictive toxicology, and new target validation, is proving to reduce the “idea-to-discovery” cycle time in drug discovery while increasing the probability of the therapeutic success of leads as well as reducing the cycle time in research and similar institutions. Currently, Cellomics’ proprietary ArrayScan® and KineticScan® HCS Readers, along with its vHCS™Discovery Toolbox software and proprietary applications, are in use at multiple sites within the top fifteen pharmaceutical companies in the world, as well as several additional leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and academic centers globally.
