Angiogenesis plays a role in a number of diseases. Angiogenesis activators are candidates for treating stroke and heart disease, whereas angiogenesis inhibitors are among the most promising drug candidates for cancer (Figure 1). The Thermo Scientific Cellomics Tube Formation Assay provides a rapid means for assessing potential angiogenesis modulators. This high-content assay provides direct detection and measurement of anti-angiogenesis activity in vitro. It is designed for screening in 96-well plates, giving your company the ability to assess current compound libraries and support lead optimization efforts in a functional cell-based assay. With automation of angiogenic tube formation assays, you can:

  • Screen directly for function instead of a surrogate marker
  • Validate your primary hits in vitro
  • Correlate protein target with desired function in a cellular context
  • Determine potency of pro-and anti-angiogenic compounds

The Tube Formation BioApplication is an image analysis module that measures angiogenic tube formation in vitro. It reports number of tubes, tube size, branch points, and other features in endothelial cells. This assay has been biologically validated in HUVEC cells, enhancing confidence in your image-based data while improving your productivity.

The Tube Formation BioApplication provides a number of output features that quantitatively capture the biological effects of compounds on tube formation. The Angiogenic Index is a convenient way to characterize the degree of angiogenic tube formation under various conditions.
